Barcelona has reportedly held talks with representatives of Marcus Rashford, as the England forward considers the Catalan club his preferred destination should he leave Manchester United during the current transfer window.
The meeting between Rashford’s representatives and Barcelona executives took place in Lisbon on Tuesday, ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League match against Benfica.
However, financial fair play regulations pose a significant challenge for Barcelona in pursuing Rashford. The club may need to offload players such as Ansu Fati and Eric Garcia to create the necessary financial room.
Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, addressed the situation, stating: “We are dealing with the issue of financial fair play. In the final days, if the team can be strengthened, we will try, but as of today, there is nothing. Our priority is renewing the contracts of key players in the squad, after which we can focus on one or two reinforcements.”
Despite interest from Borussia Dortmund regarding a potential loan deal for Rashford, Barcelona has yet to make a formal approach. Meanwhile, AC Milan, previously linked with the forward, shifted their attention last week to securing Manchester City captain Kyle Walker.
Barcelona coach Hans-Dieter Flick is reportedly satisfied with his current squad, leaving the prospect of new signings open but uncertain.
